What is Chicken Lo Mein?
Well, that’s an important question! Basically, Lo mein is a simplified traditional Chinese dish made with egg noodles. It contains all different vegetables and some type of seafood or meat, usually chicken, beef, pork, shrimp or wontons (Chinese dumpling). It can also be eaten with just vegetables.
Sauce Used in Lo Mein
We will use Soy sauce at the last when tossing the chicken and vegetables to get that slightly sweet and amazing flavor. Use sesame oil to cook the egg noddles so that the noodles did not stick together when the tossing of the ingredients will be done. Finally, hoisin sauce – is a thick, fragrant sauce commonly used in Chinese cuisine as a glaze for meat, an addition to stir-fries, or as a dipping sauce.
This Chicken Lo Mein recipe is very versatile! You can use any vegetables you have handy like mushrooms, peppers, broccoli or whatever is there in your fridge. Just throw them all together and every time you change the vegetables you will get a different flavor. This can be actually good because you will not get bored, and changing vegetables will keep the tongue taste.
For the chicken part, you can use grilled chicken or any chicken leftover you have. Or simply replace chicken with beef for an amazing beef lo mein, pork or seafood like shrimp.
What is the difference between Lo Mein and Chow Mein?
The main difference between chow mein and lo mein is the methods used to make these stir-fry noodles are different. Both lo mein and chow mein use wheat-flour egg noodles. Lo mein noodles are boiled to softness and authentic chow mein noodles are fried to crispness.
